Sleep Apnea Treatment

It could save your life!

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Snoring could be a sign of something more serious.

If you snore or feel constantly tired you may be suffering from a common sleep disorder known as sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a serious condition where your breathing stops from five to thirty times in an hour while you’re asleep. It is caused when your throat muscles relax and your airway is narrowed. As your brain notices your oxygen levels are lowering, it forces you to wake up. This process can be so brief that you won’t remember it.

If not treated properly, sleep apnea can lead to serious health risks, including heart disease, fatigue, and even death. Here are some of the signs of sleep apnea:

  • Snoring

  • Insomnia

  • Constant fatigue

  • Frequent headaches

  • Attention problems

  • Pauses in breathing while sleeping

  • Waking up with a sore throat, dry mouth or a shortness of breath

  • Affecting your partner’s sleep!

At Lake Grove Dental, our team can identify the signs of sleep apnea. We can refer you to sleep study specialists to help determine the severity of your condition. Often, mild to medium level sleep apnea can be treated with a simple nighttime appliance you wear to bed, eliminating the need for a CPAP machine.

Did You Know?
According to the American Sleep Apnea Association, it is estimated that almost 22 million Americans suffer from this sleep disorder. What’s more, 80% of the cases of moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea are currently undiagnosed.

When assessing you for sleep apnea, Dr. Branen asks you a series of questions to help identify if you are suffering from the disorder.

If you are a suspected sufferer of sleep apnea, then Dr. Branen can work directly with your physician or sleep study specialist for a proper diagnosis and discuss your options to help combat sleep apnea in the most comfortable way for you.

Dr. Branen can initially help by providing a novel non-invasive solution: Glidewell Silent Nite®. It is a customized oral appliance (similar to a mouthguard), which you can wear at night. These devices are priced under $450. Designed to gently open your airway while you sleep, making it easier for you to breathe and stop snoring, the thin, flexible design makes it comfortable to wear. Plus, it can stop your snoring almost instantly.
